DTSTART:20260430T020000Z
DESCRIPTION:Shifting Harbor from Portland\, OR joins Desert on Wednesday\,
April 29th. Joined\nby the Kurva Quartet and Hannah Joyce. $12 at the door
\, and no one turned away\nfor lack of funds. We're excited for a great ni
ght of ambient sounds\, music\, and\npoetry.\n\nShifting Harbor is an ambi
ent soundscape project based in Portland\, Oregon\,\nfronted by Tom Asseli
n (Canadensis\, Medicine for a Nightmare). The sounds have\nbeen described
as evolving sonic landscapes rotating through time. The blending\nof mani
pulated textures creates an atmospheric ocean that can have the effect of\
nobserving memories that may or may not belong to the listener. Shifting H
arbor’s\nlive shows land somewhere between Stars of the Lid and Rites of S

SUMMARY:Evicshen at Wave Archive
DTSTAMP:20260428T123027Z
DTSTART:20260501T020000Z
DESCRIPTION:San Francisco based experimental sound artist Victoria Shen (A.
K.A. Evicshen)\ncomes to Wave Archive Thursday April 30th\, in a duo set w
ith Greg Saunier. Algae\n& Tentacles opens the night. $13 advance tickets
in our bio\, $15 day of show.\n\nLimited space so we recommend picking up
a ticket and some ear plugs.\n\nEvicshen is a sound performance alias by V
ictoria Shen who manipulates records\nand materials of all kinds. Her soun
ds oscillate between moments of restraint\nand swells of frenetic and conf
rontational movement. Eschewing conventions in\nharmony and rhythm in favo
r of extreme textures and gestural tones\, Shen uses\nwhat she calls 'chao
tic sound' to oppose signal and information\, eluding\ntraditionally embed
ded meaning. Her personal identity\, her body\, is the space\nher work uti
lizes to restructure sonic meaning. In her live performances\, she\npropos
es an exploration between meaning and non-meaning through the physical\nac
tivation of noise tropes. The appendage-like instruments and objects she\n
makes\, exemplify Shen's ability to embody through sound her interest in t
he\ntension created by opposition: control and chaos\, the unique and the
mass\nproduced\, the practical and the absurd.
